Reducing risk

Allergy aware schools and children’s education and care services use a range of strategies to reduce risk.

It is recommended that schools and children’s education and care services discuss with parents and carers which strategies are appropriate for their child, and these should be included in the child’s individualised anaphylaxis care plans.

Schools and children’s education and care services may also put other whole of school strategies in place to manage risk and these should be informed by an anaphylaxis risk management plan.

Schools  and children’s education and care services should communicate how they plan to manage anaphylaxis risk through their policy and through communications (such as a letter) to their community.

These documents provide schools and children’s education and care services with examples of strategies to manage the risk of a child being exposed to what they are allergic to.
