Allergy Aware Children's Education and Care Poster
Allergy Aware children’s education and care services (CEC) have many things in place to reduce the risk of an allergic reaction.
If an allergic reaction does happen while the child is at a CEC service, it will be recognised and managed well.
Documentation
- Anaphylaxis policy
- Individual anaphylaxis care plans for children at risk of anaphylaxis
- An ASCIA Action Plan for each child at risk of anaphylaxis
Reducing risk
This includes things such as:
- Making sure the right child gets the right food
- Not sharing food
- Hand washing
- Thinking about children at risk of anaphylaxis when planning activities
Staff are trained to
- Know which children are at risk of anaphylaxis
- Reduce the risk of an allergic reaction
- Recognise and treat allergic reactions
- Know how to make and serve food for children with food allergies (All about Allergens for CEC online training)
Communication
The CEC service shares information about:
- What staff do to manage allergies and the risk of anaphylaxis
- How the CEC community can help keep children with allergies safe
Allergy Medication
- The child’s own adrenaline (epinephrine) injector and a copy of their ASCIA Action Plan are provided to the CEC service
- The CEC service has a general use adrenaline injector
